Commissions

Original paintings, drawings, archival collages, artist-made prints, hand made books and small sculptures can be produced on commission, if the project is consistent with the vision and working methods of the artist. Commissions require a written statement outlining the project and terms. Copyrights for commissioned images remain the property of the artist within the commission contract, signed prior to the commencement of the work. However, the copyrights may be negotiated given compensation reflecting the transfer of intellectual property. A negotiated deposit is necessary for work to begin and payment in full required upon approval of completed work, before delivery. A payment plan can easily be negotiated.

Purchase of Original Art

At this time, framed and unframed new works by Frances A. Smokowski are available for purchase through studio visits, or other personalized arrangements. A limited number of archived works from as far back as the 1980’s are also available, including works that have never been shown.

Once Ms. Smokowski secures Gallery representation, this direct purchase option may not be possible. Consequently, serious collectors interested in securing early works from the limited number available are advised to take prompt action.

Prices vary from series to series. Established through exhibition and prior sales, they are non-negotiable. The investment of collectors in work purchased through Chrysalis Studio will never be dishonored by arbitrary or preferential discounts, or other price reductions. When a set of related images is designed as an integrated thematic unit, the price will reflect an incentive for a buyer who will protect and agree to preserve the vision of the works as an inseparable grouping. Modular works created for exploration across a series with set dimensions will not be discounted by the number purchased, unless a highly respectable offer is made on the totality of the remaining units with an agreement to keep them together. The Artists’ painstaking process, artistic vision and beliefs about the value of art preclude volume driven sales of originals online, or anywhere.
